Where will your next holiday destination be?

The past twelve months have been more than a little strange. We have all been spending more time at home than ever, and with restrictions looking set to ease in 2021, we are all looking forward to heading off to somewhere brighter and more beautiful than the four walls we have become used to.

With the new roadmap out of lockdown in place, we are looking to the future to get us through this long, cold winter. Should the government’s plan be followed through, we cannot wait to jet off to some incredible, accessible locations that will whet our appetite for adventure.

But there is no need to wait until you can book! Plan ahead now by checking out these incredible, safe places to travel in 2021 and beyond. Read on to add some items to your bucket list and start your planning right now.

Berlin, Germany

Are you looking forward to being able to explore Christmas markets sometime soon? We definitely missed them last year, so why not treat yourself to a trip heading to the home of amazing markets?

Germany has always been known for cutting edge transport, and now it has doubled down on its commitment to providing and promoting ease of travel for anyone and everyone, removing barriers for those with mobility issues. You can head all over Germany with relative ease, but Berlin has a buzz and atmosphere that you won’t want to miss.

Alive with culture and history, this glimpse into Europe’s varied history is a real must-visit. You can explore Tiergarten, see museums, or simply behold the stunning architecture of Berlin’s many beautiful buildings. The city has a mobility hotline that can help everyone to get on a train when they need and want to.

Visit during the summer months to enjoy glorious weather that isn’t too hot, or wait until the winter months to see some of those classic Christmas markets.

Milan, Italy

Milan is known for being one of the central hubs of fashion, but it has so much more to offer than that. With art, history and delicious food for you to sample, it also won the Access City Award in 2016; meaning it is more accessible for those with disabilities regarding mobility. If you want to experience the outdoors, cosmopolitan energy linked to this amazing city, you can go for a week or even just a long weekend.

You can explore a whole host of museums, which are largely wheelchair friendly, so you can explore everything from the Piazza del Duomo to the Santa Maria Della Grazie Church to see its most famous permanent artwork; Da Vinci’s Last Supper.

Wildly popular for those travelling with a wheelchair or any level of need for mobility support, Milan is also great for food lovers who can tuck into a range of delicious dishes. It isn’t all pizza and pasta!

Barcelona, Spain

Whether you are staying in the city or in one of the coast’s many gorgeously relaxing resorts, no visit to this little corner of Spain will be complete without a day out in Barcelona. With delicious food and incredible buildings, you might think that hilly Barcelona would present some issues. However, you will find that most metro stations and all buses are accessible, so you can reach even the higher points without concern.

This means you can explore the bustling Las Ramblas, which, while busy with tourists, is flat enough to traverse easily. You won’t want to miss seeing the incredible Sagrada Familia, among other stunning buildings that are prime for staring and selfies.

Even the beach has been adapted, with ramps to help any wheelchair users catch some sun after a busy day of exploring and eating tapas.

Sydney, Australia

This might be more of a future plan than a 2021 plan, but it is one you will want to prepare for well in advance! Feeling adventurous? Sunny Sydney is a paradise just waiting for you.

Mixing culture and history seamlessly, from the iconic points of the Sydney Opera House to relaxing on the beautiful Bondi Beach, you can access so many areas of Sydney without an issue.

There is tons of flat access around the city, and public transport is well equipped for visitors of all ability levels. If this past year has left you wanting to plan the trip of a lifetime (and potentially pet a koala), then Sydney could be a good idea for you.
