What is angina?

Most commonly associated with coronary heart disease angina is caused by a narrowing or hardening of the arteries which supply blood to the heart. It causes chest pain or discomfort which can spread to other parts of the body. Stable angina may be triggered by exertion and stress whilst unstable angina is unpredictable with no obvious trigger. Angina also indicates risk of a heart attack (a myocardial infarcation where a blockage prevents blood flow and causes damage to the heart muscle or tissue) or stroke.

Do I need to declare angina as a pre-existing medical condition when buying travel insurance?

Yes, it is important that you advise your travel insurer or broker of any pre-existing health conditions you have. If you don’t then should you need claim on your policy your insurer may refuse to settle it, which means you may be responsible for meeting the cost of medical treatments and, if necessary bills for arranging your repatriation to the UK.

Will having angina disease prevent me from getting travel insurance?

Having angina won’t stop you being covered under a policy that includes protection for disclosed pre existing health conditions. But please be aware that many mainstream travel insurance policies exclude angina and other medical conditions. As a company specialising in insurance for people with pre-existing medical conditions or who have disabilities, Ancile can help you find competitive angina travel insurance either for European or worldwide wide travel.
