QWhat happens if my client tries to sue me?
AAt one time, it was costly to try and sue somebody. However, with the large amount of ‘no win no fee’ claim companies existing today, people often make a claim even if they think their chances are fairly slim. If you’re sued, and you don’t have the right insurance, you could end up paying out thousands of pounds in compensation. Fish’s Carer & Personal Assistant Insurance will help you to defend yourself in criminal proceedings, should your client try to sue you for an (alleged) breach of Food Safety or Health and Safety Acts. Cover isn’t provided for fines or penalties.
-
QAm I covered if I accidentally damage my client’s property?
AThe Public Liability element of our Carer & Personal Assistant policy covers you in case you accidentally damage your client’s property. This cover has a limit of up to £5million and you must pay the first £100 for damage to someone else’s property.
-
QAm I covered if I accidentally give my client the incorrect medication?
AIf you should happen to accidentally give your client the wrong medication, you will be covered for up to £5million. The cover wouldn’t be valid if you deliberately gave the client the incorrect medication or gave the incorrect medication because you were performing duties you hadn’t had appropriate training to perform. As with all insurance policies, limitations and exclusions apply, so be sure to check the full policy documents before making the choice to purchase cover.
-
QAm I covered if I accidentally injure my client?
AInsurance for carers and personal assistants from Fish Insurance offers cover of up to £5million if you accidentally injure your client while performing support duties. -
QAm I covered if I get injured at work?
AIf you’re self-employed, you don’t have the benefit of being covered by your employers’ liability insurance policy. But, with our Carer & Personal Assistant cover you get up to £10,000 personal accident cover to protect you in case you are injured at work. This cover wouldn’t be valid if you were undertaking certain dangerous activities such as rock climbing, or if the accident was as a result of drunkenness. Other exclusions apply, so be sure to check the full policy documents before making the choice to purchase cover.

QI’m self-employed. Do I need Carer & Personal Assistant insurance?
AIf you’re self-employed, it’s a good idea to invest in insurance. It means that you are protected should something go wrong at work. Clients may also check that you have public liability insurance, in order to give themselves peace of mind that they’ll be protected if an accident occurs.
