Six useful disability websites to bookmark

Living independently is important, especially for those with disabilities and illnesses. Online resources such as websites are a great tool for maintaining independent living, and they can also provide you with news and stories on issues that matter to you, as well as connect you to an online community.

Here are useful disability websites to save in your favourites.

1. Scope

Scope is a disability charity that aims to make the UK a place where those with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else. Its website provides helpful information and support for disabled people, parents or carers of disabled people, or professionals that work with people with disabilities. The site includes information on benefits, grants, disabled services, fundraising and campaigns, as well as an online community that anyone can join.

2. Disabled GO

Disabled GO provides information on attractions and locations round the UK and their level of accessibility. The site covers everything from hotels, to shops and events – just search for the location you need and the website will give you a helpful accessibility guide. There is also a blog section providing disability related content and news.

3. Enable Magazine

Enable Magazine is a hub of news, features, interviews and disability related stories. It acts as a news source for people in and involved with the disabled community. Enable Magazine focuses on what people can do, not what they can’t do, and promotes a positive message about all aspects of disability.

 4. GOV.UK

For those looking for advice on finance, work and disability rights, the GOV.UK website has a section dedicated to providing information for people with disabilities. The website includes information on everything from benefits and financial help, to carers, equipment and transport and recruitment and work.

5. Disability Jobsite

This site helps those with disabilities to find employment and supports people on the pathway to work. Disability Jobsite aims to deliver barrier free recruitment with its specially designed online interface. It also provides advice on CVs, interviewing and an employer’s database.

6. Disabled Holidays

Disabled Holidays is the largest accessible holiday specialist in the UK. It provides information on accessible accommodation, even auditing most of the properties with its own staff. Other services on offer include mobility equipment hire, airport assistance and adapted transfers.
